DIY Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap

The Duggar’s Family Recipe For Front or top load machine

Ingredients

If you are into DIY mode like I am, you are going to love making this recipe.

If you can’t find Fels-Naptha bar soap – you can also use Ivory,
Sunlight, Kirk’s Hardwater Castile or Zote bars.
 Don’t use heavily perfumed soaps.
4 Cups hot tap water
Fels-Naptha soap bar
½ Cup Borax
1 Cup of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
½ Cup Oxi Clean (optional)
1 Tsp of Tea Tree Oil (optional)
Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water.
Fels Naphta Cooking
Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.
In a 5 gallon bucket add 3 gallons of hot tap water.
(ask your local bakery if they can sell you a 5 gal bucket,
I read that Icing comes in 5 gals buckets)
Slowly add melted soap,
Super Washing Soda, Oxi Clean, and Borax.
Stir well until all powder is dissolved.
Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.
Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons.
once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil.
Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser
half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water.
Shake before each use. (it will gel)

This Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.

Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)

Front Load Machines- ¼ Cup per load (Approx. 640 loads)

This recipe for laundry soap will give you great quality laundry soap,  and since it’s not filled with harsh chemicals it won’t give you any allergies. It’s Low Sudsing to No Sudsing. Remember that its the ingredients in the soap, not the suds, that does the cleaning.  Works well in traditional or HE machines. I will make this laundry soap again.

I added 1 tsp of Tea Tree Oil to my Recipe (note: I use Vinegar instead of fabric softener)

Vinegar works great and NO! your clothes won’t smell like vinegar. It works out to be few cents per load which is amazing!!! I still have plenty of borax, super washing soda, oxi, & tea tree oil to make more soap.

The Fels Naptha Bar cost me .97 cents at WalMart. I don’t shop at Walmart, so I purchased 6 bars during my trip. This way I don’t have to go back there any time soon.

I get Borax for about $3.29 or so & Super Washing Soda for about $2.49

from my local Shop Rite.

The Tea Tree Oil I get for $4.99 at Trader Joe’s

Oxi for about $3

Target carries Borax & Oxi.

My Recipe cost approx. $3 per batch

Around $2 if you leave out the Oxi and Tea Tree Oil

Wow, great idea. I made a soap only in laboratory but I think I can try in home and add f.e. flower petals or orange peel. Thanks. ;-)

  2. Thanks for sharing the actual DIY soap recipe. I had seen a lot of mentions about DIY laundry soap but not an actual recipe I could follow. With these boys and a newborn seems like I am always washing clothes and running out of soap. Thanks for this it should come in handy.

    • No Prob! I am ready to make a new batch actually and my friends are coming over to learn :D yey!
It works just fine and you can always add diff scents to modify to your fav smells.

  3. I’ve seen home-made soaps but never laundry. I’m sure you could get these packaged as luxury homemade laundry detergent useful as presents. I wouldn’t mind them myself.
